The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), widely known for its iconic Amul brand, has announced a strategic tie-up with Spain’s Cooperativa Ganadera del Valle de los Pedroches (COVAP) to launch its fresh milk products in Spain and eventually across the European Union. This marks a significant milestone for India’s largest dairy cooperative as it forays into the European market with fresh milk offerings for the very first time.

Amul Enters Europe with Flagship Milk through COVAP Partnership

The rollout of Amul’s fresh milk will begin in Madrid and Barcelona, and subsequently extend to key Spanish and Portuguese cities including Malaga, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, Córdoba, and Lisbon. Further plans include expansion into other prominent European dairy markets such as Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. The official launch event took place at the Embassy of India in Madrid.

Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Amul, said, “This association will ensure all our Spanish consumers will be nourished and energised with the goodness of Amul Milk. This is the first time that Amul fresh milk is being launched in Europe.” He further added, “It is our great pleasure to bring the taste of India to the world, in alignment with the vision of our Honourable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, to make Amul a global dairy brand…”

Founded in 1959 in Pozoblanco, Córdoba, COVAP is a well-established Spanish cooperative with more than 2,000 active farmer-members. Its advanced dairy facility processes over 400 million litres of milk annually and exports to more than 30 countries, including the US, UK, and regions in Asia. COVAP President Ricardo Delgado Vizcaíno said, “This partnership with Amul allows us to work with another cooperative to help them grow their brand in Spain, benefitting not only our dairy farmer members but those in India as well."

Amul’s Domestic Leadership

Amul remains the world’s largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, with 3.6 million members and over 112 dairy plants processing upwards of 12 billion litres of milk annually. With a turnover exceeding $11 billion, Amul has earned the distinction of being the world’s strongest dairy brand.
