On Wednesday, Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) announced that its wholly-owned step-down subsidiary, Adani Renewable Energy Fifty Seven Limited, has started operations of a new solar power project with a capacity of 187.5 megawatts (MW) at Khavda in Gujarat.

In a regulatory filing, the company stated that based on the necessary clearances, a decision was taken at 8:11 a.m. on May 21, 2025, to officially operationalise the plant starting May 22, 2025.

AGEL’s Operational Renewable Capacity Rises to 14,528.4 MW

With the commissioning of this new solar plant, AGEL’s total operational renewable energy generation capacity has now increased to 14,528.4 MW. This milestone supports the company’s larger plan to become a major renewable energy player.

Khavda – The World’s Largest Single-Location Renewable Energy Project

The Khavda Renewable Energy Plant is AGEL’s largest and most ambitious green energy project. The plant covers a massive 538 square kilometres, making it the largest renewable energy site in the world at a single location.

The project is designed as a solar and wind hybrid park with an investment of around ₹1.5 lakh crore. It is located only a few kilometres from the India-Pakistan border in Gujarat. Currently, the project has a capacity of 2.4 gigawatts (GW), but it is planned to be expanded to 30 GW by the year 2030.

Key to AGEL’s and India’s Renewable Energy Goals

This Khavda project plays a key role in helping AGEL achieve its target of 50 GW of operational renewable energy capacity by 2030. This is especially important as India has set a national goal to develop 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by the same year. Khavda’s massive scale and strategic location make it a central part of both AGEL’s and India’s clean energy future.

AGEL’s Strong Investment Plan

Earlier, a report from the Financial Express revealed that AGEL has an annual capital expenditure (capex) plan of $4–5 billion. The Khavda project is considered the flagship project under this investment plan. The company is expected to continue putting significant resources into building this mega green energy park.
