The Karnataka Government has proposed setting up Data Centre Parks across Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mangaluru with a combined capacity of 1,000 MW, as per news reports.

The decision was taken on 30 April at a meeting involving ministers from the energy, industries, and IT departments. Officials said the project is part of plans to build digital infrastructure linked to industrial activity.

Bengaluru Data Park Details

Half of the planned capacity, about 500 MW, is expected to come up near Hoskote in Bengaluru. Power for the facility is to be sourced from Pavagada Solar Park.

The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board has indicated that 60 million litres per day of secondary-treated water can be supplied. Units operating within the park will need to carry out tertiary treatment before using the water.

Secondary treatment removes a large share of contaminants, while tertiary treatment addresses the remaining impurities for industrial use.

Land Identified in Mangaluru

In Mangaluru, around 350 acres have been identified within the Baikampady Industrial Area. The land falls under the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board.

The site has been set aside for one of the data parks. In Mysuru, land is yet to be finalised, and officials have been asked to identify suitable locations.

Next Steps and Execution

The state government has said it will provide power and water connections to companies setting up data centres in these parks. Departments have been directed to begin initial work and reach out to potential investors.

A committee of ministers, expected to include Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, will be formed to monitor progress and speed up implementation.
