India’s energy supply chain remains stable despite ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting key global shipping routes. Two Indian-flagged LPG carriers have successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz, a critical corridor for energy transport.
Government authorities have indicated that domestic fuel availability remains adequate, supported by additional cargo arrangements and close monitoring of distribution systems.
Two Indian vessels, Green Sanvi and Green Asha, have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz in recent days. According to official statements, the ships are scheduled to arrive at Indian ports on April 7 and April 9, respectively. Several other Indian-flagged vessels continue to operate in the region.
Green Sanvi is transporting approximately 46,650 metric tonnes of LPG with 25 crew members onboard. Meanwhile, Green Asha carries about 15,405 metric tonnes with a crew of 26. These shipments form part of India’s ongoing efforts to maintain steady fuel supplies.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has stated that sufficient LPG supplies are currently available across the country. Additional cargoes have been secured to offset any potential disruptions, while oil marketing companies continue routine inspections to ensure smooth distribution.
Authorities reported no shortages at LPG dealerships, with online booking levels reaching around 97 per cent. Demand for smaller 5 kg cylinders, commonly used by migrant workers, remains stable, with daily sales exceeding 90,000 units.
Gas supply to fertiliser plants has been increased to around 90 per cent, alongside a supplementary allocation to the city gas distribution network. Petrol and diesel stocks are also considered sufficient, with domestic prices remaining comparatively stable.
Officials acknowledged concerns regarding reduced LPG imports due to the evolving geopolitical situation. Efforts are underway to enhance domestic production and prioritise household consumption, while commercial supply is being managed in a phased manner.
Fluctuations in crude oil and natural gas prices continue to influence supply dynamics. Disruptions linked to force majeure in Qatar have affected gas availability, though supplies are gradually improving with support from spot LNG cargoes.

India’s current LPG supply position remains stable despite external pressures on global energy routes. Authorities continue to monitor developments closely, balancing imports, domestic production and distribution to manage potential risks in a changing environment.
