Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney concluded talks in New Delhi, finalising a uranium supply agreement and setting a timetable for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
The two governments signed a contract worth $2.6 billion for the long-term delivery of uranium to support India’s civil nuclear power programme. The deal also covers collaboration on small modular reactors and advanced reactor technology.
Both sides agreed to conclude negotiations on the CEPA by the end of 2026. The framework is expected to broaden trade in goods and services, creating new investment opportunities across sectors.

MoUs were signed to enhance cooperation in critical minerals, aiming to build resilient supply chains. Renewable energy initiatives include Canada’s participation in the International Solar Alliance and a joint India Canada Renewable Energy and Storage Summit scheduled for later this year.
Agreements were reached for university collaborations in artificial intelligence, healthcare, agriculture and innovation, with Canadian institutions planning campuses in India. A cultural exchange MoU will promote interaction between Indigenous and tribal communities.
The partners set an ambition to raise bilateral trade to $50 billion by 2030. The agreements are positioned to deepen economic ties and diversify supply sources for both nations.
The uranium contract and the accelerated CEPA timeline mark a significant step in India‑Canada relations, covering energy security, critical minerals, renewable initiatives and broader trade objectives.
