How is NIFTY500 Multicap 50:25:25 Calculated? How Are Stocks Selected for Inclusion in NIFTY500 Multicap 50:25:25?

The NIFTY500 Multicap 50:25:25 share price is calculated by weighting its 501 stocks on the basis of periodically capped free-float market capitalization relative to a particular base market capitalization value on a real-time basis.

In order to be considered for addition in NIFTY500 Multicap 50:25:25, the companies must fulfil the following criteria:

  1. It should be listed on the National Stock Exchange.
  2. It should constitute a part of the NIFTY 500 index at all times.
  3. Should cap large-cap stocks from NIFTY 100 at 50% weightage, mid-cap stocks from NIFTY Midcap 150 at 25% weightage, and small-cap stocks from NIFTY Smallcap 250 at 25% weightage every quarter.
  4. Should weigh each stock in its respective size segment on the basis of its float-adjusted market capitalization value.
  5. The index weights are rebalanced on a quarterly basis in the months of March, June, September, and December based on T-3 closing prices.
  6. Equity securities with Differential Voting Rights (DVR) can be included. The DVR security will be classified based on its combined entity value into the large/mid/small cap size segment. The weight of both, the parent security and the DVR security will be split in the same proportion as of their float-adjusted market cap value.

The index value is calculated as follows –

Index value = Current market capitalization/ (Base market capitalization * Base Index Value)

The NIFTY500 Multicap 50:25:25 index is reviewed semi-annually based on six months of data in the months of January and July each year. The replacement of stocks (if any) is implemented from the last trading day of March and September. Ad-hoc reconstitution may take place when the securities are removed from the NIFTY 500 index or in instances of delisting, suspension, or a scheme of arrangement.
