Indian tech company Zoho has entered the AI space with the development of its in-house large language model (LLM), Zia LLM, which is tailored for business purposes. Built using Nvidia’s AI-accelerated computing platform, the model was designed with data privacy and cost-efficiency in mind.

Zia LLM includes 3 models (1.3 billion, 2.6 billion, and 7 billion parameters), each trained for specific business functions such as data extraction, code generation, and summarisation. These models are deployed across Zoho’s data centres in India, the US, and Europe and will be made available to customers soon. Additionally, Zoho introduced automatic speech-to-text tools for English and Hindi, with plans to include other Indian and European languages later.

Zia LLM and AI Agents for Business Use

Unveiled at Zoho’s annual Zoholics conference in Bengaluru, Zia LLM is part of the company’s move to support enterprises with domain-specific AI capabilities. While Zoho supports 3rd-party integrations with tools like ChatGPT and Llama, Zia LLM offers businesses greater control over their data, as it is hosted securely on Zoho servers.

The company is not aiming to compete with consumer-focused AI like ChatGPT for now, but instead is concentrating on enterprise needs. The platform-wide AI assistant, Ask Zia, now comes with enhanced capabilities for data engineers and analysts and is integrated into various applications across the Zoho suite.

Real-World Applications and Indian-Focused AI Agents

Zoho has introduced a series of AI-powered digital agents that assist in daily business functions. These agents act as virtual employees with role-specific access, and admins can track their performance and behaviour. Examples include a candidate screening agent that shortlists applicants, a deal analyser that offers sales insights, and a revenue growth tool that identifies upsell and cross-sell opportunities.

Special agents designed for the Indian market can verify official documents such as PAN cards, Aadhaar, GSTIN, and Voter IDs, particularly useful for HR and financial services. Zoho also reported a 32% growth in the Indian market in 2024, driven by demand from sectors like ITeS, BFSI, retail, manufacturing, and education.

Conclusion

Zoho’s entry into the AI space with its proprietary LLM and tailored AI agents highlights its commitment to innovation, data privacy, and enterprise-focused solutions.
