India’s white-collar job market demonstrated growth in May 2025, with a notable upswing in recruitment across key industries. As per a news report, the increase was primarily led by the consumer electronics sector, along with a focus on senior leadership roles and regional job market resilience.

Consumer Electronics Sector Leads Annual Hiring Growth

White-collar hiring in India increased by 22% in May compared to the same period last year. The surge was mainly driven by the consumer electronics sector, which saw a significant 70% spike in recruitment, highlighting expansion and demand across the industry.

Senior management roles emerged as a key focus area, registering the highest year-on-year growth at 36%, signalling robust leadership hiring. Among cities, Mumbai recorded the strongest year-on-year growth at 23%, reflecting growing sectoral resilience, innovation, and a strategic push towards long-term, sustainable workforce development, the report stated.

Marginal Monthly Increase Reflects Temporary Slowdown

Despite strong year-on-year growth, hiring momentum slowed slightly on a monthly basis. White-collar recruitment saw a marginal 2% increase in May compared to April, indicating a temporary deceleration.

The logistics and transportation sector contributed to the month-on-month growth with a 5% uptick, reflecting steady demand and operational activity in supply chains and distribution networks.
