Voltas Ltd has received a show-cause notice from the Office of the Principal Commissioner, Central GST Commissionerate, Dehradun. As per exchange filings, the notice alleges short payment of GST worth ₹265.25 crore for the financial years 2018-19 to 2020-21. The dues are linked to Universal Comfort Products Ltd, which merged with Voltas during FY 2020-21.
The notice was issued under the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, along with the Uttarakhand Goods and Services Tax Act and the Integrated Goods and Services Tax Act. It seeks an explanation for the shortfall and demands interest and penalties in addition to the tax amount.
In a regulatory filing dated July 2, 2025, Voltas confirmed receipt of the notice on July 1, 2025. The company stated it is evaluating the matter and will respond within the prescribed time frame. The filing clarified that the matter pertains to UCPL prior to its merger with Voltas.
A separate notice worth ₹31.77 crore was issued to Voltas on June 30, 2025. This notice came from the GST Commissionerate in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. It pertains to alleged irregular input tax credit and non-payment of GST during the same assessment years, FY18 to FY21.
For the March quarter, Voltas posted a net profit of ₹241 crore, up from ₹116 crore year-on-year. Revenue for the quarter stood at ₹4,768 crore, showing a 13.4% increase. EBITDA rose to ₹332.8 crore, compared to ₹191 crore in the same quarter last year.

As of 09:59 AM on July 3, 2025, Voltas share price was at ₹1,347.30, a 1.09% increase. The stock is up 4.06% for June but has fallen 25.54% so far year-to-date. The company’s market cap stands at ₹44,106.94 crore.
Voltas is currently addressing tax-related notices amounting to nearly ₹297 crore. The company has not yet disclosed the timeline for its official response.
