Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced the next phase of its 5G rollout, expanding services to 23 new cities. These include Ahmedabad, Agra, Aurangabad, Kozhikode, Cochin, Dehradun, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Malappuram, Meerut, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune, Rajkot, Sonepat, Surat, Siliguri, Trivandrum, Vadodara, and Vizag. The rollout will follow a phased approach, covering Vi’s priority telecom circles.

Strategic Expansion Backed by Spectrum

This expansion builds on Vi’s earlier 5G launches in Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, and Patna. It is part of the company’s broader strategy to roll out 5G in 17 key circles where it already holds 5G spectrum. Customers with 5G-enabled devices in the newly added cities will now be able to access Vi’s 5G network, with unlimited 5G data starting at ₹299 as an introductory offer.

Strong Uptake and Positive Response

Vi reports strong momentum in its 5G launch, with over 70% of eligible users already utilising the network in areas where it is live. This reflects rising consumer demand and satisfaction with Vi’s next-gen network.

Technology Partnerships and Network Efficiency

To improve performance and energy efficiency, Vi is deploying AI-powered Self-Organising Networks (SON). The company has partnered with global technology giants Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung to ensure smooth integration of its 4G and 5G infrastructure.

Major 4G Network Enhancements

Alongside its 5G rollout, Vi is strengthening its 4G network. The company has added 1 lakh new towers in the last six months. Since April 2024, it has deployed 4G across 65,000 sites on the 900 MHz band and over 56,000 sites using 1800 MHz/2100 MHz/TDD bands. These upgrades led to a 35% boost in 4G data capacity and a 26% rise in 4G speeds. Vi’s 4G coverage has grown from 77% in March 2024 to 84%.
