Sona BLW share price surged by as much as 7.5% on Thursday, July 17, after a CNBC-TV18 report said the company is in advanced talks to supply electric vehicle (EV) components to Chinese EV giant BYD. By mid-day, the stock was trading 6.9% higher at ₹486.55, though it remains down 18% so far this year.

Is A New Deal Between Sona BLW and BYD Possible?

According to sources familiar with the matter, discussions between Sona BLW and BYD have been going on for the past few months and are now at an advanced stage. If a deal is finalised, this could be a major breakthrough for the Indian auto component maker, helping it expand its international footprint.

Sona BLW May Set Up New Plant in China

As per news reports, Sona BLW may set up a local manufacturing unit in China to meet BYD’s component needs. This facility would likely become part of a long-term plan to support ongoing collaboration with the Chinese carmaker.

Strong Focus on the EV Segment

Sona BLW has been focusing heavily on the EV sector. In the last quarter of the previous financial year, 35% of the company’s revenue came from its EV business. Tesla is one of its key clients, highlighting the company’s growing role in the global EV supply chain.
