SBI Life Insurance, a leading life insurance provider in India, and Vidyaniti LLP, an investment-focused limited liability partnership, have made a strategic investment in the infrastructure sector. Both entities participated in a significant open market transaction involving the National Highways Infra Trust (NHIT), reflecting their confidence in long-term infrastructure assets.
Together, they acquired a 4.25% stake in NHIT, amounting to a total investment of ₹1,100.61 crore. SBI Life purchased nearly 3.74 crore units, representing a 1.93% holding, while Vidyaniti LLP secured over 4.49 crore units, equating to a 2.3% stake in the trust.
The units were bought at an average price of ₹133.57 each. This matches the price at which the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) divested the same number of units-8.24 crore, on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
NHIT, established in 2021 by NHAI, is an Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) formed to align with the Government of India’s National Monetisation Pipeline. Notably, in March this year, SBI Mutual Fund had also exited a 4.7% stake in NHIT, raising ₹815 crore through that transaction.
