Salesforce’s aggressive use of AI tools has significantly changed its workforce strategy. By automating up to 50% of its workload, the company has reduced dependence on human resources, slowed hiring, and reassigned existing roles, all while increasing operational efficiency.
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff confirmed that artificial intelligence has taken over between 30% and 50% of the work traditionally done by human employees. These gains are primarily seen in coding, customer support, and repetitive operations. As AI becomes more capable, the shift in task allocation has enabled the company to enhance output without expanding its workforce.
Benioff earlier indicated that Salesforce will not hire new engineers this year because of rising productivity from AI. Roles that once demanded manual input are increasingly handled by intelligent systems that learn and improve continuously. This decision comes at a time when other tech giants also report AI-driven output gains.

Earlier this year, over 1,000 employees were let go. However, Salesforce stated that 500 customer service staff will transition to different roles, helping the firm retain talent while managing costs. Despite lowering technical hiring, Salesforce is expanding its sales team to capitalise on new AI-powered innovations. The aim is to better position products enhanced by AI capabilities. With AI now deeply embedded in customer relationship management, enterprises require skilled sales professionals to better communicate value propositions built on automation and analytics.
As of January 31, Salesforce’s global employee strength stood at around 76,500. While not all divisions face downsizing, AI’s influence is visible across departments. Decisions on hiring and team structure now strongly correlate with AI integration levels and strategic business needs.
