State-owned Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) has been declared the lowest bidder (L1) by Central Railway for a critical infrastructure project. The ₹137.17 crore contract, inclusive of taxes, involves the design, supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of a 132/55 KV traction substation, sectioning posts (SPs), and sub-sectioning posts (SSPs) in the Bhusaval-Khandwa section.

On December 31, 2024, RVNL share price jumps 4.40%, reaching an intra-day high of ₹426.25 at 9:34 AM (IST). According to BSE data, the stock recorded a total traded volume of 1.74 lakh shares, resulting in a turnover of ₹7.31 crore.

Order Details 

This initiative aims to upgrade the existing 2×25 KV traction system using Scott-connected transformers, enabling it to meet a loading target of 3,000 MT. The project will be executed in an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) mode and is expected to be completed within two years.

In its regulatory filing, RVNL stated: “It is hereby informed that Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd emerges as the Lowest Bidder (L1) from Central Railway for Design, Supply, Erection, Testing & Commissioning of 132/55 KV Traction Substation, Sectioning post (SPs) and Sub sectioning post (SSPs) in 2 x 25 KV Traction System (Scott Connected Transformer) of Bhusaval – Khandwa Sections of Central Railway, to meet 3000 MT loading target on EPC mode.”

Q2 FY25 Performance

RVNL, a rail PSU, reported mixed financial results recently. Its net profit fell year-on-year (YoY) to ₹286.9 crore in Q2 FY25, compared to ₹394.3 crore in the same period last year.

Revenue from operations dipped YoY to ₹4,855 crore, down from ₹4,914.3 crore in Q2 FY24. EBITDA saw YoY drop to ₹271.5 crore.
