PM Modi to Visit Jammu and Kashmir on June 6

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir on June 6, 2025. This visit comes in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor and is marked by the launch and inauguration of large-scale development projects worth over ₹46,000 crore. The focus is on enhancing connectivity, infrastructure, and socio-economic integration in the region.

Inauguration of Chenab Bridge – World’s Highest Railway Arch Bridge

Among the highlights of the visit is the inauguration of the Chenab bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge. Located 359 metres above the river Chenab, this 1,315-metre-long steel arch structure is engineered to endure strong winds and seismic activity. It stands as a symbol of India's engineering prowess and aims to significantly improve rail connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. Once Vande Bharat trains begin service on this route, travel time between Katra and Srinagar will reduce by nearly 2 to 3 hours, with the journey expected to take approximately 3 hours.

Anji Bridge – India’s First Cable-Stayed Rail Bridge

Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the Anji bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge. Situated in challenging terrain, the Anji bridge represents a major milestone in Indian rail infrastructure, offering safe and reliable connectivity across difficult landscapes.

Foundation Stone and Dedication of Development Projects Worth ₹46,000 Crore

At Katra, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone, inaugurate, and dedicate to the nation a range of development projects valued at over ₹46,000 crore. These initiatives are part of a broader commitment to improve regional infrastructure and long-term economic development.

Dedication of Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link

A key project to be dedicated is the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL). This 272-km-long railway line, built at a cost of ₹43,780 crore, includes 36 tunnels covering 119 km and 943 bridges. The USBRL provides seamless, all-weather rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of the country. It is expected to be a game changer in terms of mobility and socio-economic integration.

Launch of 2 Vande Bharat Trains Between Katra and Srinagar

The Prime Minister will also flag off two Vande Bharat Express trains running between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar. These trains are designed to offer a fast, comfortable, and dependable mode of travel for residents, pilgrims, and tourists, further boosting regional tourism and connectivity.

Boost to Road Infrastructure and Last Mile Connectivity

In a major push for road development, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for several critical road projects. These include the widening of the Rafiabad to Kupwara road on National Highway 701 and the construction of the Shopian bypass on NH-444, worth over ₹1,952 crore. He will also inaugurate two flyovers – one at Sangrama Junction on NH-1 in Srinagar and another at Bemina Junction on NH-44. These are expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve urban mobility.

New Medical College in Katra to Strengthen Healthcare

Further enhancing public services, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence in Katra. Built at a cost of over ₹350 crore, it will be the first medical college in Reasi district and is set to improve access to quality healthcare in the region.

Conclusion

The projects inaugurated and launched during this visit mark a major step towards transforming connectivity and infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, bringing long-term benefits to the region’s people and economy.
