India’s capital markets continue to command attention on the global stage, as the National Stock Exchange (NSE) secured the 4th spot on the global IPO (initial public offering) league table for the first half of calendar year 2025 (H1-CY25).

According to the S&P Global Market Intelligence report, NSE contributed $5.51 billion in IPO fundraising, which accounted for 8.9% of the worldwide aggregate of $61.95 billion raised through IPOs in the period. This development signals India’s rising stature in the global equity fundraising ecosystem.

NSE Leads in IPO Count

The NSE’s impressive showing places it just behind the Nasdaq Global Market, NYSE, and Nasdaq Global Select Market, 3 US-based exchanges that collectively raised $28.95 billion in H1-CY25, representing 46.73% of the global total.

However, in terms of the number of IPOs, NSE outperformed all global exchanges by hosting 73 IPOs during the period, surpassing Nasdaq Global Market’s 66.

India’s Primary Markets Show Robust Performance

Beyond the NSE’s global rank, India’s overall IPO activity remained strong. A total of 119 IPOs were launched across Indian exchanges in the first 6 months of 2025, collectively raising ₹51,150 crore. This marks a significant year-on-year increase in capital raised, compared to ₹37,682 crore from 157 listings in the same period of 2024.

Although the number of listings declined slightly, the increase in funds raised shows the presence of larger offerings and heightened investor confidence. In 2024, Indian exchanges closed the year with ₹1.713 trillion raised through 333 IPOs, setting the stage for continued growth in 2025.

Conclusion

India’s performance in H1 2025, especially through the NSE, reflects not only the country’s economic resilience but also its growing significance in the global investment landscape. As investor appetite for Indian equities strengthens and the country’s capital markets evolve, India is likely to maintain, if not strengthen, its foothold among the world’s leading IPO destinations.
