The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), through the NSDC and PMKVY 4.0 schemes, has successfully trained 3.3 crore candidates in India, equipping them with vital skills for emerging industries such as AI, robotics, and electric vehicles.
As of June 30, 2025, 1.6 crore individuals have been trained under PMKVY, out of which 1.29 crore have been certified. Additionally, about 1.74 crore candidates have been trained under other NSDC programs. Over 2.32 lakh trainer certifications have been facilitated by NSDC. The Government owns 49% equity in NSDC, ensuring oversight through board representation despite private majority ownership.
The rollout of PMKVY 4.0 has introduced training in advanced domains like Artificial Intelligence, Electric Vehicles, 5G, Robotics, and Data Analytics. The courses are aligned with the NSQF, ensuring industry relevance and enhancing employability. Emphasis has been placed on hands-on learning through On-the-Job Training (OJT) integrated into the Short-Term Training component.

The full training lifecycle is trackable via the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), incorporating Aadhaar-based enrolment and biometric attendance systems. Geo-tagged monitoring, dashboards, and certified trainer requirements further ensure transparency and quality delivery. Government oversight is reinforced through e-KYC, grievance redressal, audits, and evaluations.
The schemes ensure inclusive access by targeting marginalised groups and focusing on Aspirational and LWE-affected districts. PMKVY allocated ₹1,538.29 crore in FY2024-25 across all Indian states, with the highest funds directed to Uttar Pradesh (₹352.64 crore), Rajasthan (₹292.42 crore), and Madhya Pradesh (₹205.84 crore).
India’s PMKVY and NSDC schemes have created a strong skill development infrastructure benefiting 3.3 crore individuals. With futuristic sectors at its core and robust governance models, the initiative marks a critical step toward a digitally skilled and employable workforce.
