Namakkal Restaurants Turn to Tamil Nadu-Based Zaaroz, Move Away from Swiggy and Zomato

A significant shift has taken place in Namakkal as local restaurants abandon Swiggy and Zomato, opting instead for Zaaroz, which is a Tamil Nadu-based food delivery platform. This move has resulted in drastic reductions in operational expenses for restaurants and better pricing for customers.
Swiggy, Zomato Out; Zaaroz In With Cheaper Subscription Model
Zaaroz, developed by an entrepreneur from Chidambaram, has attracted over 50 eateries in Namakkal. Unlike Swiggy and Zomato, which charge commissions of ₹20,000 to ₹30,000 monthly, Zaaroz adopts a fixed monthly subscription of ₹3,000 for restaurants and ₹1,500 for bakeries and messes, plus 18% GST. This model saves restaurant owners nearly 90% of their delivery platform costs, enabling them to offer food at original rates.
Customer Surge and Community Support
On July 7, 2025, Zaaroz officially launched in Namakkal with a traditional puja at Anjaneyar temple. By afternoon, 3,000 users had downloaded the app, and 100 deliveries were completed. The app also enables the delivery of groceries and meat, adding to its appeal among users seeking local services at lower costs.

Impact on Food Prices and District-Wide Expansion
Due to the cost savings, restaurants have started cutting prices. For example, two idlis that previously cost ₹45 to ₹50 are now priced at ₹30. Such pricing corrections have been welcomed by residents. Additionally, restaurants in Tiruchengode and Rasipuram are in talks to join Zaaroz, indicating potential for district-wide expansion across Namakkal.
Conclusion
The switch to Zaaroz represents a localised, cost-effective alternative that benefits both restaurateurs and consumers. Its affordable pricing model and strong community backing have positioned it as a rising challenger to larger delivery apps.
