Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has launched a new service that allows policyholders to pay premiums through WhatsApp. The feature went live on May 9 and is available to users registered on the LIC customer portal.
As of 10:10 AM on May 12, 2025, LIC share price was trading at ₹809.40, a 2.85% increase, with a -14.21% decline over the past six months and a -11.64% drop over the past year.
Customers can start the process by sending “Hi” to the WhatsApp number “8976862090”. The chat interface displays policies that are due for payment and offers multiple payment options, including UPI, net banking, and debit or credit cards. The entire transaction, from identifying policies to payment and receipt generation, takes place within WhatsApp.
To use the WhatsApp payment feature, users must first register on the LIC portal at www.licindia.in. During registration, policyholders are required to provide their policy number, instalment premium, and upload a scanned copy of either a PAN card or passport. After submitting the necessary forms and documents, users receive confirmation once LIC verifies the details, which usually takes up to three working days.
LIC’s digital portal has over 2.2 crore registered policyholders. On average, more than 3 lakh users log in daily to access services such as policy tracking, premium payments, and downloading receipts. The WhatsApp service adds another option for users preferring mobile platforms.
The service works entirely through WhatsApp and doesn’t require any separate app installation.

The WhatsApp bot offers a new way for registered LIC users to make premium payments online. It functions as an extension of LIC’s existing customer portal and follows the same authentication and registration process already in place.
