Muharram, the Islamic New Year, is marked with reverence and mourning, especially on the 10th day of Ashura. In 2025, Ashura will be observed on July 6, which is a Sunday.

Find out if banks and the stock market will be open on July 7, 2025.

Stock Markets BSE, NSE To Remain Open on July 7, 2025

Ashura, observed on the 10th day of Muharram, falls on July 6, a Sunday. As stock markets are already closed on Sundays, there is no separate market holiday the following day. Therefore, both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain open on July 7, 2025. As such, all trading activities across equity segments will resume normally on Monday.

When is Muharram?

In 2025, the Indian stock market has designated 14 trading holidays on weekdays. Muharram is not among them, since Ashura coincides with a weekend. The last holiday when the stock market was closed was on May 1 for Maharashtra Day, and the next will be August 15 for Independence Day. Hence, July 7 will see regular market operations despite the religious significance of the preceding day.

Stock Market Trading Hours and Sessions

On working days, NSE and BSE follow the same trading schedule. The pre-open session begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 9:08 AM, followed by the regular market session from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM. A closing session is then held from 3:40 p.m. to 4:00 PM. Also, block deal sessions occur between 8:45 AM to 9:00 AM and 2:05 PM to 2:20 PM. July 7 will follow the same routine.

No Bank Holiday on July 7, 2025

As per the RBI’s official page for bank holidays, there is no holiday on Monday, July 7. Since Muharram Ashura is not a weekday in 2025, there is no public holiday on July 7.

Banks, government offices, schools and post offices will remain operational. All public services are expected to function as usual without interruptions across India on that Monday.

Conclusion

In 2025, Muharram’s Ashura falls on July 6, which is a Sunday. As a result, July 7 does not qualify as a trading holiday, and both NSE and BSE will conduct normal trading across all segments. Traders and investors can proceed with their usual activities without interruption on that date.
