Investors and traders should take note that there will be no trading activity on Wednesday, October 2, as both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed in observance of Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra, as per the official holiday calendar released by the exchanges.

In addition to the equity markets, other financial markets, including the call money market, foreign exchange (forex) market, and Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), will also remain shut for the day.

Additional Market Holidays in October

Beyond October 2, stock markets will also remain closed on:

  • October 21 – Diwali Laxmi Pujan (except for Muhurat Trading)
  • October 22 – Diwali Balipratipada

This gives traders three full non-trading weekdays in October, excluding regular weekend holidays.

Diwali Muhurat Trading Session on October 21

While the month begins with a break, it also features one of the most symbolic trading events of the year: Diwali Muhurat Trading. Scheduled for Monday, October 21, this special one-hour session is considered an auspicious time to invest, marking the beginning of the new financial year in the Hindu calendar.

This year’s Muhurat trading window will run from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM, with trade modifications allowed until 2:55 PM. As per NSE guidelines, “All trades executed during this Diwali Muhurat trading session shall result in settlement obligations.”
