Indian equity markets are likely to open on a subdued note, tracking mixed global cues. US futures were trading flat, while the GIFT Nifty slipped 0.13% to 24,676.
At 8:11 AM Gift Nifty was at 24,661.5, down by 0.19%, after opening at 24,638.5. This suggests a muted opening for Indian equities.
Asia-Pacific markets traded mixed as investors awaited updates from the ongoing US-China trade talks and the US Federal Reserve’s policy decision due Wednesday.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 declined 0.61%, and the Topix fell 0.76%. South Korea’s Kospi slid 1.09%, while the small-cap Kosdaq remained flat. Conversely, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 0.68%, and China’s Shanghai Composite inched up 0.12%.
US stock futures remained flat on Monday despite fresh record highs for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite. Futures for the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 were up about 0.1%, while Dow Jones Industrial Average futures added just 6 points.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded shares worth ₹5,876.76 crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) were net buyers of shares worth ₹6,599.19 crore on July 28, 2024, as per NSE provisional data.
Earlier on Monday, the NSE Nifty 50 ended the session 150 points, or 0.63%, lower at 24,680, while the BSE Sensex dropped 570 points, or 0.70%, to settle at 80,890.

Indian markets may face near-term volatility as global cues remain uncertain, with mixed signals from Asia and flat US futures. Heavy FII selling continues to pressure domestic equities, though DII buying offers some support. Investors may stay cautious ahead of the US Fed meeting outcome and trade negotiations.
