Garuda Aerospace Unveils Indigenous Drone Facility Near Chennai

In a significant step towards promoting indigenous drone technology, Garuda Aerospace has set up an Agri-Drone Indigenisation facility near Chennai. The advanced centre aims to locally design and manufacture high-end Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), aligning with the Centre’s Atmanirbhar Bharat mission.

India’s First Agri-Drone Indigenisation Hub

The newly launched facility, located at Thalambur and spanning 35,000 sq ft, is the first of its kind in the country. It will produce 7 drone subsystems and over 33 different parts. This new unit complements Garuda’s existing manufacturing plant nearby and marks a major advancement in India’s drone production capabilities.

The state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Kamlesh Paswan. The initiative not only strengthens Garuda’s manufacturing base but also supports India’s goal of becoming self-reliant in advanced drone technology.

Scaling Innovation and Skill Development Nationwide

In addition to the facility launch, Garuda Aerospace introduced 300 Centres of Excellence across the country in partnership with educational institutions and industry stakeholders. These centres will promote innovation, research, and training in drone technology.

A Train-the-Trainer programme was also launched to equip individuals with the expertise to operate drones efficiently and pass on those skills. Garuda Aerospace CEO Agnishwar Jayaprakash stated, “Our new Agri-Drone Indigenisation facility is equipped to manufacture over 33 different parts and 7 subsystems. This reinforces our commitment to self-reliance.”

A live demonstration of Agri-Drones was held to showcase the company’s technological advancements and growing capabilities in the drone ecosystem.
