FADA November 2024 Vehicle Sales: 2 Wheelers Hit Record High, Passenger Vehicles Struggle with 13.72% Decline
Updated on: Dec 9, 2024, 2:09 PM IST
FADA's November 2024 data reveals two-wheelers' record growth of 15.8% YoY, while passenger vehicle sales fall 13.72% amid weak consumer sentiment.

The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) has released its vehicle retail data for November 2024, showcasing a tale of two extremes in the Indian auto market. While two-wheelers achieved record-breaking numbers, passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles faced significant challenges. Here’s a comprehensive breakdown of the report:
- Two-Wheelers (2W):
November proved to be a standout month for two-wheelers, registering an all-time high for the segment. Sales grew by 15.8% YoY and 26.67% MoM, driven by festive spillovers from October. However, subdued marriage season demand and only limited rural support tempered the overall momentum.
- Passenger Vehicles (PV):
The passenger vehicle segment experienced a tough month, with sales declining 13.72% YoY and 33.37% MoM. High inventory levels of 65-68 days, weak consumer sentiment, and the absence of significant new launches contributed to the drop. FADA has called for better inventory management to avoid aggressive discounting.
- Commercial Vehicles (CV):
Commercial vehicle sales fell by 6.08% YoY and 15.85% MoM. The segment struggled due to outdated models, restricted product options, and sluggish infrastructure activities. Weak coal and cement industries also added to the challenges.
- Tractors (Trac):
Tractors were the surprise performers of the month, achieving a 29.88% YoY growth and a 24.97% MoM increase. This growth was largely driven by stable rural demand and favourable schemes.
- Three-Wheelers (3W):
The three-wheeler segment grew marginally at 4.23% YoY, but a MoM decline of 11.81% highlighted mixed performance within subcategories like passenger carriers and e-rickshaws.
Key Trends and Observations
- Festive Spillover Effect:
The late Diwali in October resulted in some festive registrations spilling into November. While this marginally boosted two-wheeler and tractor sales, it was not enough to uplift the overall market.
- Inventory Challenges:
Passenger vehicle inventory levels remained high, leading FADA to stress the need for better alignment between production and demand.
- Rural Demand Stability:
Rural markets provided stable support, particularly for two-wheelers and tractors, but their impact on PVs and CVs was limited.
Segment-Specific Highlights
- Two-Wheelers: Hero MotoCorp led the segment with a 35% market share, followed by Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India at 25.02%.
- Passenger Vehicles: Maruti Suzuki maintained its leadership with a 39.92% market share, but sales dipped compared to last year.
- Commercial Vehicles: Tata Motors topped the CV category, despite recording declines on both YoY and MoM bases.
