Tesla officially rolled out its Robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, on June 22, 2025. The debut marks Tesla’s first public trial of driverless ride-hailing, using existing Model Y vehicles equipped with Full Self‑Driving (FSD) software and monitored by onboard safety personnel.

Tesla plans to introduce a purpose-built autonomous vehicle dubbed the Cybercab and expects production to begin by 2026 or 2027. Alongside, Tesla intends to enable private Tesla owners to share their vehicles via the upcoming Tesla Network, turning personal cars into robotaxis.
As per news reports, experts caution that scaling from limited trials to a national fleet requires overcoming technical, regulatory, and operational hurdles especially with Tesla’s camera-only approach.
