In a significant step towards promoting clean energy and tackling pollution, the Delhi Cabinet has approved key revisions to its Solar Policy, 2023. The updated policy not only enhances financial incentives for residential solar users but also includes provisions to improve air quality through upgraded pollution control equipment. These measures reflect the Delhi government’s commitment to environmental sustainability and energy self-reliance.

Revised Solar Policy

The Delhi Solar Policy, implemented in March 2023, has now been revised to provide enhanced support for rooftop solar panel installations. Consumers will now be able to avail up to ₹30,000 monthly as power generation-based incentives for solar plants of up to 3kW capacity. The Cabinet approved subsidies ranging from ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 per kilowatt, while also fixing ₹10,000 as the standard rate.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said, “The Delhi government provides the highest financial support among all States and Union Territories in the push towards renewable energy adoption.” She added that the government has targeted the installation of 2.3 lakh residential rooftop solar systems. “To facilitate the adoption of solar energy and make it more affordable, the Delhi government is partnering with financial institutions to offer easy loan options,” Ms. Gupta also said.

Winter Pollution Measures

In preparation for the approaching winter season, the Cabinet has sanctioned a proposal to strengthen pollution control efforts across the capital. The government will procure 250 water sprinklers, 70 road sweeping machines, and other pollution management equipment to address the seasonal spike in air pollution.

These proactive steps are expected to improve air quality and protect public health during the high-pollution winter months.

Conclusion

The Delhi government’s revised solar incentives and timely pollution control strategies reflect a dual approach to environmental reform. By fostering clean energy use and taking concrete steps to combat pollution, the administration aims to create a greener and healthier city.
