Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) recorded a net profit of ₹280 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2025. This is the second consecutive quarter of profit, following ₹262 crore in Q3FY25. The company had last reported back-to-back quarterly profits in 2007. In the same quarter last year (Q4FY24), BSNL had posted a loss of ₹849 crore.

BSNL Full-Year Loss Cut by Over Half

Despite the recent profits, BSNL ended FY25 with a net loss of ₹2,247 crore. This is a 58% improvement compared to the ₹5,370 crore loss reported in FY24. The reduction is attributed to improved revenue from mobility, FTTH (Fibre-to-the-Home), and enterprise services, along with a larger focus on infrastructure and capital investments.

Revenue Growth

BSNL’s operating revenue in FY25 increased by 7.8% to ₹20,841 crore, compared to ₹19,330 crore in FY24. Total income for the year rose to ₹23,427 crore, showing a 10% year-on-year growth. Revenue from mobility services, which includes interconnect usage charges, grew 6% to ₹7,499 crore. The FTTH segment brought in ₹2,923 crore, up 10% from the previous year. Leased lines and enterprise services contributed ₹4,096 crore, a 3.5% rise over FY24.

BSNL has rolled out over 98,000 4G towers across India. Initial 5G testing has started in cities such as Jaipur, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Bhopal, and others. The company noted that about 10 telecom circles reported net profits in FY25, compared to 3 in FY24.
