BEML Ltd and Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL), both government-owned entities, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly work on advanced marine and shipyard systems. Reportedly, the agreement was signed in the national capital by CMDs of both organisations, Shantanu Roy of BEML and Hemant Khatri of HSL, along with senior officials.
The partnership will focus on co-developing marine systems with an emphasis on indigenous design, manufacturing, and end-to-end lifecycle support. The collaboration covers both defence and commercial maritime sectors.
BEML will lead the design and development of specialised systems using its platform engineering expertise. HSL will handle indigenisation efforts and utilise BEML’s manufacturing strengths, especially in the defence and heavy engineering space.
BEML operates under the Ministry of Defence and works across three segments: defence and aerospace, rail and metro, and construction and mining. HSL is engaged in shipbuilding, submarine construction and refits, ship repair, and the development of complex offshore and onshore structures.
The joint effort will target the creation of technologies for marine infrastructure and shipyard logistics. The systems developed through this MoU will support ongoing and future maritime operations, including shipbuilding and maintenance.

The MoU was formally exchanged at BEML’s Delhi office in the presence of top executives from both sides. The announcement was made through an official statement released on Friday.
The collaboration is intended to build on the technical capacity of both entities and contribute to India’s maritime infrastructure through domestic production and innovation.
As of 11:01 AM on July 28, 2025, BEML share price was trading at ₹4,134.80, a 0.34% decrease.
The BEML-HSL alliance will jointly work on marine systems using existing technical and production strengths. This adds to a broader push for indigenous capability development in the defence and maritime sectors.
