Adani Cement, which includes Ambuja Cement and ACC Cement, supplied 65,000 metric tonnes of cement for the construction of the Chenab Rail Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir. The company acted as the lead cement supplier for this infrastructure project.
The Chenab Rail Bridge is now the world’s highest railway arch bridge. Built 359 metres above the riverbed, it spans a total length of 1,315 metres. The structure is to endure seismic forces and wind pressures common to the region.
The cement supplied was Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) 43 Grade. This grade is typically used in large infrastructure projects due to its strength and performance in varying environmental conditions. It is commonly selected for its consistency and durability, especially where long-term structural integrity is required.
The construction of the bridge was undertaken by Indian Railways as part of a broader plan to connect remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir. Material supply logistics had to be planned for challenging terrain and weather conditions. The execution involved multiple phases over several years.
The bridge was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to the region. Along with this, the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge, was also opened. Both bridges are part of a national project to link the Kashmir Valley with the rest of India through railways.
