The formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC) is causing uncertainty among government employees. The National Joint Consultative Mechanism (Staff Side) – NC JCM recently urged the Cabinet Secretary to release the Terms of Reference (ToR), which were expected in January. This delay has caused great confusion among people.

While employees await official news, this article will explore how a ₹65,100 basic pay could be revised under potential fitment factors of 1.92x, 2.0x, and 2.86x, offering a glimpse into future salaries.

What Does ₹65,100 Basic Pay Looks Like Under the 8th Pay Commission?

For government employees with a current basic pay of ₹65,100, the 8th Pay Commission could bring a significant revision. Here are three potential scenarios based on different fitment factors:

Scenario 1: Fitment Factor 1.92x (Conservative Estimate)

  • Revised Basic Pay: ₹125,000
  • What It Means: This conservative estimate suggests a substantial increase, potentially if Dearness Allowance (DA) is merged with the basic pay. It offers a notable raise without putting excessive pressure on government finances.

Scenario 2: Fitment Factor 2.0x (Moderate Estimate)

  • Revised Basic Pay: ₹130,200
  • What It Means: A straightforward doubling of the current basic pay. This option is often considered a balanced and politically feasible approach, providing considerable relief to employees amidst inflationary pressures.

Scenario 3: Fitment Factor 2.86x (Optimistic Estimate)

  • Revised Basic Pay: ₹186,186
  • What It Means: This most optimistic scenario would lead to a substantial enhancement in take-home pay. If the 8th Pay Commission follows the aggressive precedent set by the 7th CPC (which used a 2.57x fitment factor), such a revision could significantly improve the financial standing of employees.

What is the Expected Fitment Factor for 8th Pay Commission?

For the upcoming 8th Pay Commission, current discussions suggest a fitment factor ranging from 1.92x to 2.86x. This wide range depends on whether Dearness Allowance (DA) is first merged with the basic pay before the new fitment factor is applied.

Previously, the 7th Pay Commission used a fitment factor of 2.57x. This multiplier was applied to government employees' existing basic pay, leading to a notable increase in the minimum basic pay from ₹7,000 to ₹18,000.

Conclusion

From a conservative estimate of ₹125,000 to a highly optimistic ₹186,186 for those currently earning ₹65,100, the revised salaries are poised to provide substantial financial relief.
