In a recent directive dated May 21, the Railway Ministry has instructed all 17 zonal railways to take urgent measures to ensure railway employees are well-informed about the newly introduced Unified Pension Scheme (UPS). The communication highlights the importance of effective outreach and comprehensive information-sharing, enabling employees to make informed decisions regarding their pension options.

Unified Pension Scheme as an Alternative to NPS

The Union government has introduced the Unified Pension Scheme as an alternative to the existing New Pension Scheme (NPS). This move allows current railway employees the opportunity to choose between the two pension models. The ministry has stressed that clear understanding is essential for employees to assess which option best aligns with their individual needs.

Facilitation Camps to Support Staff

To support this transition, the Railway Ministry has directed zonal offices to organise facilitation camps at various locations. These camps are expected to be staffed with personnel from human resources, finance, and other subject matter experts. Their role is to offer guidance, resolve employee queries, and assist with the registration process for the scheme.

According to the ministry, 3 camps are intended to provide a supportive environment where employees can comfortably engage with experts, clarify their doubts, and complete their registration.

In addition to organising these camps, the Railway Ministry has instructed officials to maintain detailed records of each facilitation event.
