Launched in February 2019 and implemented with effect from December 1, 2018, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a financial support scheme launched by the Government of India. The scheme provides financial assistance for agricultural and allied activities, and domestic needs of landholding farmers’ families, attempting to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields.
Land-holding is the basic eligibility criteria for the PM-KISAN scheme which is to be established based on the land records of the concerned state or Union Territory. However, the high-income strata and tax-payers are excluded. The cut-off date for determination of land-holding was February 1, 2019 and no changes were then considered to be for the next 5 years.
The beneficiary farmers’ families are provided ₹6,000 per year in three equal installments, transferred into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, which makes e-KYC for PM-KISAN scheme mandatory. The e-KYC for PMKISAN scheme is essential as it allows seamless verification of identity of the scheme’s beneficiaries.
What is eKYC?
eKYC, or the electronic Know Your Customer, is Aadhaar-based paperless verification that allows Aadhaar holders to establish their identity.
