Aadhaar-linked bank account is a mandatory requirement for availing the benefits under the PM-KISAN scheme, as the amount will be directly transferred into the beneficiary’s bank account.

There are nearly 9.8 crore farmers, including 2.41 female farmers, enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi yojana (PM-KISAN). The scheme was launched in February 2019 and implemented with effect from December 1, 2018. It is designed to provide financial support to land-holding farmers’ families to help them in agricultural and allied activities as well as domestic needs.

The PMKISAN scheme aims to ensure proper crop health and appropriate yields and is entirely financed by the Government of India. The beneficiary farmers’ families are paid ₹6000 per year in three equal instalments deposited directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank account. The instalments are paid in April–July, August–November, and December–March.

Since its inception of the PM-KISAN scheme, ₹3.68 lakh crore have been disbursed in 19 instalments till February 2025. The land-holding is the basic eligibility criterion of the scheme, while high-income strata are excluded from it. The eligible farmer must have an Aadhaar-linked bank account as the scheme benefit is directly deposited into his or her account.

Since the Aadhaar-linked bank account for PM-KISAN scheme beneficiaries is mandatory, here is how you can link your Aadhaar and bank account through various online and offline methods.

In case of a new applicant for the PM-KISAN scheme, the process of linking Aadhaar with the bank account is part of the application process. Here is how it is done:

  • Go to pmkisan.gov.in and click on “New Farmer Registration” on the homepage of the official website
  • You will then see a form which you will have to fill in with all the mandatory details, including Aadhaar number and bank account details. Make sure the details you provide match your Aadhaar card details.
  • Review the details for accuracy and then submit the form.
  • The details you provided will be verified by the concerned authorities. You will receive an update, and your Aadhaar and bank account will be linked once the verification is done.

You can also link your Aadhaar and PM-KISAN bank account by visiting a nearby ATM of your bank. Here is what you will have to do:

  • Go to the ATM of your bank,
  • Swipe your debit card and enter the 4-digit PIN
  • Select the ‘Services’ option, then select the ‘Registrations’ section and press the Aadhaar Registration option
  • Select the type of account (savings or current), enter your Aadhaar number, and press ‘OK’.
  • You will get a confirmation message on your registered mobile number when your Aadhaar and PMKISAN bank account are linked.

The offline way to link Aadhaar and bank account for PMKISAN beneficiaries is to visit the bank branch and follow the steps mentioned below:

  • Visit the bank branch where you have your PMKISAN account
  • Submit a photocopy of your Aadhaar card, consent form and other documents (as may be required) to the bank official
  • The official will verify your details and initiate linking your PMKISAN bank account and Aadhaar
  • Once the process is complete, you will receive a message on your mobile phone confirming the linking

Conclusion

It is mandatory to have your Aadhaar linked to your account if you want to avail the benefits of the PMKISAN scheme. In case of a failure to link your Aadhaar with your bank account, you will be unable to get the financial assistance credited to your account.
