Sterlite Technologies Limited (STL), a global leader in optical and digital solutions, announced significant developments in their US operations on April 24, 2024. STL’s fibre optic cables manufactured in the US are now compliant with the “Build America, Buy America” (BABA) provisions of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). This positions them favourably for participation in government-funded broadband infrastructure projects.

Alongside BABA compliance, STL unveiled its “Rapid” series of fibre optic cables. This new product line strengthens their “In America, For America” portfolio, offering a comprehensive range of high-capacity ribbonized to ruggedized cables for diverse applications like duct, direct buried, aerial, and last-mile connectivity. This strategic move underscores STL’s dedication to:

  • Bridging the Digital Divide: BABA compliance and the “Rapid” series empower STL to actively contribute to connecting rural America by meeting the needs of federal and private broadband projects, including those under the BEAD (Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment) Program.
  • Local Job Creation and Investment: STL’s commitment extends to the local US economy. Their $56 million investment in the world-class “Palmetto Plant” in South Carolina has already created 125 full-time jobs and fostered collaboration with leading US service providers.

Overall, STL’s recent announcements demonstrate their unwavering commitment to supporting the US government’s broadband initiatives and building a robust domestic supply chain for advanced fibre optic solutions.

“With multiple BEAD projects on the horizon, the next five years will be landmark years for broadband and rural connectivity in the US, and we are very excited to support this program. Driven by our purpose of ‘Transforming Billions of Lives by Connecting the World’, our teams here are engaging with service providers to enable fast and seamless fibre rollouts in every corner of the United States. STL remains committed to continuous product innovation and providing superior quality, craft-friendly optical products for faster network roll-out that meet or exceed industry standards,” said Paul Atkinson, CEO – Optical Networking, STL.
