On May 01, 2024, GE T&D India Ltd, a listed entity of GE Vernova’s Electrification business in India, announced through an exchange filing that it had won an order from Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) to develop a State Transmission Asset Management Centre (STAMC) in Odisha, India, for Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL). The release further explained that the objective of the Centre is to aid OPTCL in operating their grid more efficiently, reliably, and resiliently through real-time grid monitoring and control.

With this project, GE T&D India Ltd hopes to offer hundreds of OPTCL substations a complete turnkey solution. The advanced grid software solutions, which will be installed at four different locations throughout the state of Odisha, include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, Video Monitoring System, Remote Accessibility System, and Automated Fault Analysis System, which will enable remote control of the substations after they are finished.

It is anticipated that the planned STAMC will be able to unify data from grid assets, including substations and transmission lines, to give OPTCL a more comprehensive situational awareness, assisting them in making more informed decisions, resolving issues more quickly, and maximising resources.

With its locations in Hyderabad and New Delhi, GE Vernova’s Electrification Software division has successfully supplied more than 100 grid control centres, thereby aiding the government-backed “Make in India” campaign, which aims to incentivise businesses to design, produce, and assemble goods in India.

“We are thrilled to have been selected for this important project in Odisha, which represents a major milestone in India’s journey towards decarbonisation and net zero grids. Our innovative STAMC will help empower PGCIL and OPTCL to optimise their grid operations, continue to integrate renewable energy sources more effectively and ultimately contribute to a smarter, resilient and more sustainable grid for the future,” said Sandeep Zanzaria, MD & CEO of GE T&D India Ltd.
