On October 21, 2024, Indian stock markets were under pressure as investors cashed in on profits during the ongoing Q2 earnings season. Even with HDFC Bank‘s shares rising nearly 3%, both the BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 ended the day lower.
The BSE Sensex swung by 959 points during the day, closing at 81,151.27, down 73.48 points or 0.09%. Similarly, the Nifty50 also closed lower at 24,781, with a loss of 73 points or 0.29%.
Most sectoral indices ended lower, except for the auto sector. The FMCG, metal, oil & gas, and media sectors dropped by 1-2 percent. Both the BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices fell by 1 percent each.
The biggest losers on the Nifty included Tata Consumer Products, Kotak Mahindra Bank, BPCL, IndusInd Bank, and Bajaj Finserv. In contrast, the gainers were HDFC Bank, Bajaj Auto, Asian Paints, M&M, and Eicher Motors.
