On April 29, 2024, Bharti Airtel informed in an exchange filing that the company had deployed additional sites in the Murshidabad district to densify its network.

The company stated that the Murshidabad district network enhancement project was undertaken across 2,373 villages covering 64.19 lakh rural population. Customers in the tehsils of Domkal, Berhampore, Lalgola, Nabagram, Jalangi, Hariharpara, Sagardighi and Raninagar – I under Murshidabad districts will instantly benefit from this network enhancement.

The expansion will facilitate seamless access to high-speed connectivity that will ensure a reliable mobile network for various purposes, such as study, work and entertainment in rural areas of Murshidabad.

In 2024 alone, Airtel doubled its commitment to the state and invested additional capex to enhance its network connectivity for seamless experience on 4G, 5G, Broadband and Fiber.

The rural enhancement project encompasses areas including Jhargram, Kalimpong, South Twenty-Four Parganas, Hugli, Puruliya, Birbhum, Maldah, Jalpaiguri, Purba Medinipur, Nadia, North Twenty-Four Parganas, Darjeeling, Haora, Paschim Bardhaman, Alipurduar, Bankura, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Paschim Medinipur, Barddhaman, Murshidabad, and Koch Bihar to extend coverage in rural villages across West Bengal and provide residents with high-speed connectivity.

Airtel has been running this rural enhancement project in India and will augment network connectivity across 60,000 villages in the country by 2024. The company stated that West Bengal has been one of the big focus markets for them, and with this initiative, Bharti Airtel has already expanded its network coverage across 37,661 villages in the entire state.

Airtel has also enhanced its fibre presence in the state by deploying extra capacities to step up network capacity and take services deeper into rural and unconnected areas. Adding fresh fibre capacity will support the growth of demand for high-speed data services in this region. Airtel’s network umbrella in the region now covers all key rural, urban, and semi-urban regions, which include tourist destinations, highways, and trade centres.
