Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) has commissioned NHPC’s 300 MW (AC) solar project at Karnisar Bhatiyan in Bikaner, Rajasthan. As per the exchange filing, the project meets domestic content rules and is linked to a long-term supply arrangement with the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL).
Construction Timeline and Conditions
The project took roughly 2 and a half years to complete. About 7.75 lakh panels were installed across open desert terrain, where high temperatures and loose soil affected day-to-day work. Vehicle movement was often slow due to uneven ground. Most structures had to be fixed using ramming to keep the foundations stable in sandy patches.
Technology and Layout
The plant uses bifacial modules and DCR cells. These were set out in long rows to suit the wide, open land available at the site. Heat-resistant inverters were added to handle high summer temperatures. The full electricity output from the project is scheduled to flow into PSPCL’s grid as per the existing agreement.
Workforce and Local Inputs
As per the exchange filings, more than 300 workers from nearby areas took part during construction. Local vendors supplied some of the equipment and basic support services. Work hours were often adjusted because of rising afternoon temperatures. Moving heavy machinery across the site was slower than usual due to soft patches of soil and limited internal roads.
Generation Estimate and Capacity Position
Across its lifetime, the project is expected to produce around 17,230 million units of electricity. With this addition, TPREL’s third-party project portfolio stands above 4.9 GW. The company’s total renewable utility capacity is now 11.6 GW, including 5.8 GW that is already operational. Another 5.8 GW is at different stages of construction and is planned to come online over the next two years.
