The Delhi Traffic Police Lok Adalat provides a convenient option for settling compoundable traffic offences, but not all challans are eligible. Certain serious violations fall outside its purview and must be resolved through the regular court system. This blog highlights the types of challans that cannot be waived or settled through Lok Adalat sessions in Delhi.
Several serious and non-compoundable offences are not eligible for relief or settlement through the Lok Adalat. Drunk driving cases, due to their criminal implications, are strictly excluded. Similarly, hit-and-run incidents and cases involving death due to negligent driving must follow formal court procedures.
If a minor is found driving, that challan is also not entertained. Offences such as unauthorised racing, criminal use of vehicles, or those under active court trials are all barred from settlement through this mechanism.
Lok Adalat handles only compoundable offences. Non-compoundable or cognisable offences carry greater legal weight and require formal judicial processing. Offences involving injury, fatalities, or criminal intent demand stricter scrutiny and thus cannot be resolved through Lok Adalat. The jurisdictional scope is also limited to Delhi-issued challans; violations recorded in other states are outside the remit of these sessions.
