On November 12, 2025, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced the nationwide rollout of Passport Seva Programme (PSP V2.0), Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP V2.0), and the new e-Passport initiative, crafted to simplify and secure passport issuance for Indian citizens both domestically and abroad.
The PSP V2.0, launched across 37 Passport Offices, 93 Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs), and 450 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) on May 26, 2025, aims to streamline India's passport service ecosystem. GPSP V2.0 followed suit globally on October 28, 2025, upgrading Indian Embassies and Consulates worldwide with the same technological advancements.
This version integrates AI-powered chat and voice bots to offer real-time assistance. Users benefit from better navigation via a newly designed mobile app and website, which provide features such as auto-filled forms, easier document uploads, and faster payments through UPI and QR code options.
The introduction of e-Passports marks a technological shift. These hybrid passports contain a secure RFID chip and an antenna embedded in the cover, storing all personal information in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards. This chip not only authenticates the identity of the passport holder but also significantly reduces the chances of data tampering or forgery.
All new passports issued after the rollout will be e-Passports, while currently valid paper passports remain in force until their expiry dates.

The upgraded programmes offer enhanced document validation processes and real-time application tracking for users. These features aim to simplify passport acquisition, strengthen identity verification, and accelerate the processing timeline, especially benefiting frequent travellers and overseas Indians. The consistent user experience across domestic and global locations ensures seamless support regardless of geographic location.
The successful rollout of PSP V2.0, GPSP V2.0, and e-Passports represents a major technological advancement in India’s citizen services. These enhancements indicate the Government of India’s dedication to efficiency, transparency, and security in travel documentation, driving digital transformation on a global scale for Indian passport holders.
