Indian Railways plays a vital role in connecting people nationwide, especially during the festive season. With travel demand peaking ahead of Chhath Puja, the Railways have introduced 1,500 special trains over the next five days, averaging 300 trains per day.
These services complement the regular trains to ensure passengers reach their destinations safely and comfortably. Over the last 21 days, 4,493 special train trips were operated, averaging 213 trips daily, allowing passengers to reach home in time for Diwali celebrations.
For the current festive period, spanning from 1st October to 30th November 2025, more than 12,000 special trains are scheduled nationwide. So far, 11,865 trips from 916 trains have been notified, including 9,338 reserved and 2,203 unreserved trips. This represents a significant increase from last year’s 7,724 Puja and Diwali special trains, reflecting Indian Railways’ commitment to smooth travel during festival seasons.
Between 21st October and 31st October 2025, the number of special train trips ranged from 242 to 311 per day, accommodating the growing passenger flow. These trains helped maintain travel efficiency and ensured passengers could reach their destinations on time, even during peak periods.
Indian Railways has also focused on improving passenger experience. On 19th October 2025, over 36,000 passengers were facilitated at Udhna Station, a 50% increase from the previous year. All passengers boarded trains by 4 PM, enabling timely Diwali celebrations.
Measures like dedicated holding areas, multiple ticket counters, and crowd management initiatives ensured smooth operations. Over five days, more than 1.2 lakh passengers travelled from Udhna alone.
