The Delhi Cabinet yesterday, August 20, 2025, approved a revision in the stipend for nursing interns. The amount has been increased from ₹500 to ₹13,150 per month. This is the first change in nearly three decades.
According to PTI, the decision will benefit close to 180 nursing interns. These students are from the three nursing colleges attached to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Lok Nayak Hospital, and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.
The hike was cleared in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The health department confirmed that the revision applies to all nursing interns at the 3 government hospitals. The issue of stipend revision had been raised multiple times by nursing students.
As per news reports, Health Minister Pankaj Singh said the step was taken to bring nursing interns’ stipend closer to that of MBBS interns. He added that the increase is expected to provide financial support during training.
"For 27 years, this issue was ignored. By raising the stipend to Rs 13,150, we are ensuring that nursing interns receive the dignity, respect and support they deserve," he stated.
