The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the reappointment of C S Rajan as the part-time chairman of Kotak Mahindra Bank, as per the exchange filings reports. His new term will start on January 1, 2026, and continue until October 21, 2027, the bank informed in a filing.
Rajan has been serving as the part-time chairman of the bank since January 2024. He was first appointed as an independent director on the bank’s board in October 2022. He also holds a position on the board of Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company Limited.
Rajan is a 1978-batch IAS officer with over four decades of administrative experience. He retired as the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan in 2016. Over his career, he has worked in various departments, including energy, highways, water resources, and industry, along with a 14-year stint in agriculture and rural development.
After his retirement from the civil services, Rajan served as the Deputy Chairman of the Chief Minister of Rajasthan’s Advisory Council in 2016. In 2018, he was appointed to the Board of Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) by the Government of India, where he later became Managing Director. His role there focused on corporate restructuring and governance.
Rajan’s reappointment was cleared by the RBI for a period of nearly two years beyond his current term. The approval ensures his continuation as part-time chairman, overseeing board-level functions and governance matters at the private lender.
