Foxconn Interconnect Technology (FIT), the Hyderabad arm of Taiwan-based Foxconn, is scaling up production of Apple AirPods at its Telangana plant. The unit at Kongara Kalan, around 15 km from Hyderabad airport, began commercial production in April 2025.
As per The Economic Times report, it currently produces over 100,000 units per month. The company plans to raise this to 200,000 units over the next six to eight months by expanding and upgrading its existing lines.
For the capacity increase, FIT is bringing machinery from its Vietnam facilities while setting up one or two new lines at the site. The total investment in the Hyderabad plant is expected to touch ₹4,800 crore, of which over ₹3,000 crore has already been deployed. The new setup will also support production of newer AirPods models, such as AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3.
The Hyderabad factory currently employs about 2,000 workers. The number is expected to rise to around 5,000 as production expands. The unit forms part of a larger $550 million project announced in May 2023 under Chang Yi Interconnect Technology (India) Pvt. Ltd. This initiative plans to create around 24,000 jobs and increase local manufacturing of Apple accessories, including AirPods, connectors, and cables.
Production at the plant had slowed earlier this year due to a shortage of dysprosium, a rare earth element used in components. The shortage followed China’s restrictions on exports of certain critical minerals. The issue eased in August after Beijing relaxed the curbs, allowing the plant to resume normal manufacturing levels.

Foxconn’s expansion in Telangana is part of its plan to reduce dependence on China and strengthen manufacturing capacity in India. Apple’s India exports have also grown, with iPhone shipments reaching $10 billion in the first half of FY26, up from $5.71 billion in the same period last year.
