The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has announced that the special Muhurat Trading session will be held on October 21, 2025, to celebrate Diwali.

The trading window will remain open from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, while trade modifications will be allowed until 2:55 pm. Normal trading will remain closed for the day, with only this symbolic one-hour session available.

Significance of Muhurat Trading

Muhurat Trading marks the start of the new Samvat year in the Hindu calendar. Considered highly auspicious, investors across the country take part in this session, often making token equity purchases as a gesture of prosperity and good fortune. Historically, market sentiment during this period has been optimistic, with benchmark indices like the Sensex and Nifty frequently closing in positive territory.

Muhurat Trading Timings in Previous Years

In previous years, the Muhurat Trading session on Diwali has typically been scheduled in the evening, usually between 6:00 pm and 7:15 pm, with a 15-minute pre-open session followed by one hour of trading. These timings were set to align with the auspicious evening muhurat period.

However, for 2025, the NSE has shifted the window to the afternoon, from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, marking a change from the long-followed evening tradition.
