The Government of Maharashtra has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Starlink Satellite Communications Pvt Ltd to deploy satellite-based internet services in underserved areas. This collaboration marks the first formal tie-up between a state government in India and Starlink.

Key Development – Maharashtra & Starlink Partnership

By partnering with Starlink, Maharashtra will use satellite-internet technology to extend connectivity to remote and aspirational districts, including Gadchiroli, Nandurbar, Washim and Dharashiv.

The initiative supports the state’s “Digital Maharashtra” mission and integrates with its EV and coastal-development programmes. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the move sets a new benchmark for India’s push toward a “future-ready Maharashtra”.

Strategic Significance

With the LOI, Starlink will serve government institutions, rural communities and critical infrastructure in the state. Maharashtra thus leads India in adopting satellite-enabled digital infrastructure. This move supports broader national goals, including Digital India and aims to bridge connectivity gaps in hard-to-reach regions.
