India’s benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50 are likely to open flat on Tuesday, tracking mixed signals from global markets.
The Gift Nifty was trading near 24,692, about 7 points above the previous close of Nifty futures, pointing to a muted opening for domestic indices.
Asian shares were mixed in early trade on Tuesday, mirroring Wall Street’s overnight gains. Japan’s Nikkei 225 dipped 0.32%, while the Topix fell 0.21%. On the other hand, South Korea’s Kospi advanced 0.27% and the Kosdaq edged up 0.18%. Futures for Hong Kong’s Hang Seng indicated a positive start.
US markets ended higher on Monday, driven by strength in technology stocks. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 68.78 points (0.15%) to close at 46,316.07. The S&P 500 advanced 17.51 points (0.26%) to 6,661.21, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 107.09 points (0.48%) to 22,591.15.

US President Donald Trump announced fresh tariffs on wood products. Imports of lumber will attract a 10% duty, while vanities, kitchen cabinets, and upholstered wooden products will face a 25% tariff effective October 14. From January 1, tariffs will rise to 30% on upholstered wooden products and 50% on kitchen cabinets and vanities from countries that fail to reach trade agreements with the US.
With Gift Nifty signalling a flat start, markets are likely to remain range-bound in early trade. Global cues, coupled with Trump’s tariff announcement, may keep sentiment cautious until fresh domestic triggers emerge.
