The PM Kisan 20th instalment is set to be credited today, August 2, 2025, as part of the Government of India’s continuous effort to strengthen the rural economy and support small and marginal farmers. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release this instalment from Varanasi, marking another milestone in the country’s flagship farmer welfare programme: Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN).

With each cycle of disbursement, the scheme continues to serve as a powerful example of how targeted financial support, when executed transparently, can uplift millions and fuel the vision of an empowered agricultural sector.

PM Kisan 20th Instalment To Benefit Over 9.7 Crore Farmers

The 20th instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme will provide direct financial assistance of ₹20,500 crore to more than 9.7 crore eligible farmers across India. The entire amount will be transferred directly into Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. This ensures transparency, eliminates the role of middlemen, and guarantees the timely delivery of funds.

This step underscores the Government’s unwavering focus on digital governance and its commitment to enhancing rural livelihoods.

Objectives Of PM-KISAN Scheme

The scheme was conceptualised to address the immediate financial needs of small and marginal farmers and prevent them from falling into debt traps. Its objectives include:

  • Supporting farmers in purchasing critical agricultural inputs to ensure healthy crop production.
  • Helping prevent dependency on informal lending sources such as moneylenders.
  • Sustaining farming activities through reliable financial support at regular intervals.

Impact And Milestones Achieved So Far

The scheme’s widespread adoption and sustained success can be traced to several key milestones:

  • Over ₹3.69 lakh crore has been disbursed to farmers across India through 19 instalments.
  • A saturation drive under the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra in November 2023 added over 1 crore new beneficiaries.
  • In June 2024, an additional 25 lakh farmers were included within the first 100 days of the new Government’s term.
  • Uttar Pradesh led in the number of beneficiaries during the 18th instalment with 2.25 crore recipients, followed by Bihar with 75.8 lakh beneficiaries.

These figures reflect the scheme’s scale and impact, making it one of the most significant rural welfare programmes in India’s history.
