The Indian government continues its transformative push in agriculture with the distribution of 25 crore Soil Health Cards and expanded access to credit via Kisan Credit Cards. These efforts, backed by other key reforms and policy initiatives, are accelerating the sector's contribution to a self-reliant economy.

Soil Health Cards and Kisan Credit Cards

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal announced that 25 crore Soil Health Cards have been issued, enabling farmers to make informed fertiliser usage decisions and improve productivity. The Kisan Credit Card initiative has facilitated access to timely and affordable crop loans, bridging the gap between need and availability of financial support in rural areas.

Strengthening Market Linkages and Real-time Pricing

As part of its wider digital push, the government linked 1,400 mandis to the e-NAM platform, giving farmers access to real-time market prices and eliminating middlemen. This integration is helping improve pricing transparency and direct market access for millions of cultivators nationwide.

Free Trade Agreements and Digital Farming Propel Growth

Free Trade Agreements with Australia, the UAE, EFTA nations, and the UK have opened new markets for Indian farmers. The adoption of digital tools such as Artificial Intelligence, geospatial mapping, vertical farming, and weather prediction systems is being promoted to modernise agri practices. These innovations will primarily support Farmer Producer Organisations and agricultural cooperatives.

Conclusion

The combined impact of 25 crore Soil Health Cards, improved credit access, digital market integrations, and international trade ties is positioning Indian agriculture for rapid growth. These reforms are vital in achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat while empowering the farming community with tools and global opportunities.
