On Friday, May 23, 2025, Reliance Power share price soared as much as 18.66% to hit an intraday high of ₹52.90. By 1:23 PM, the stock was trading at ₹52.29, up 17.29%, while the BSE Sensex rose 1.05% to 81,802.05. The strong rally in Reliance Power was driven by a mix of heavy trading volumes, a strategic solar partnership, and improved quarterly results.
The surge in Reliance Power’s stock came amid unusually high trading activity. On the BSE, around 24.23 million shares worth ₹120.80 crore were traded by early afternoon. On the NSE, the trading volume was even higher, with 282.43 million shares exchanging hands, amounting to a total turnover of ₹1,410.25 crore. The high demand for the stock reflected strong investor interest.
Earlier this week, Reliance Power entered into a ₹2,000 crore joint venture with Bhutan’s Druk Holding and Investments (DHI) to set up a 500 MW solar power plant. This initiative marks the largest private sector FDI in Bhutan's solar energy sector. The project will follow a 50:50 Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model.
In addition, Reliance Power signed a commercial term sheet for a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Green Digital Private Limited, a subsidiary of DHI. This partnership highlights Reliance Power’s increasing emphasis on renewable energy expansion.
Reliance Power also posted a net profit of ₹126 crore in Q4FY25, marking a turnaround from the ₹397.5 crore loss it reported in the same quarter last year. Although the total income dropped slightly to ₹2,066 crore from ₹2,193.8 crore, the company managed to sharply reduce its expenses to ₹1,998.49 crore, compared to ₹2,615.15 crore a year ago. The reduction in costs played a key role in boosting profitability.

Reliance Power operates across a wide range of power segments, including coal, gas, hydro, solar, and wind. The company has over 6,000 MW of operational power generation capacity and continues to expand through the development of new coal and gas-based plants. With a presence in both domestic and international markets, the company remains focused on building a sustainable and diverse energy portfolio.
Reliance Power shares surged nearly 19% due to strong investor demand, a landmark solar joint venture with Bhutan, and a solid return to profitability in Q4FY25.
